Synchronous Machine
Properties of Synchronous Machine
1 - A Synchronous Machine is that type of Machine which runs always at Synchronous Speed.
2 - In Synchronous Machine the field winding placed on rotor and Armature winding placed on the stator.
3 - Synchronous Machine Mainly used in Power system and Power Station.
4 - The Construction for Synchronous Machine remains same as Alternator and Motor.
Construction of Synchronous Machine -
According to Rotor Construction there are two type of Synchronous Machine -
1 - Salient
2- Non-Salient
Difference Between Salient and Non-Salient Synchronous Machine -
Salient -
1 - Air gap Non-Uniform.
2 - Torque is Non-Uniform.
3 - More Noise.
4 - Number of Pole may be 4, 8, 10, 16.
5 - Speed 120 - 500 RPM.
6 - Higher Diameter of Length.
7 - Smaller Axial Length.
8 - Prime Mover Used - Water Turbine, IC Engine.
Non-Salient -
1 - Air gap Uniform.
2 - Torque is Uniform.
3 - Less Noise.
4 - Maximum Number of Pole 2 to 4.
5 - Speed 750 - 3000 RPM
6 - Smaller Diameter of Length.
7 - Higher Axial Length.
8 - Prime Mover Used - Steam Turbine.
Note - Alternator and Synchronous Motor are Synchronous Machine.
